Leapmotor, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, has announced a partnership with the FAW Group to provide its B10 EV platform for the development of Hongqi-branded electric vehicles. As reported by Reuters, this collaboration will enable Hongqi to produce both pure electric and range-extended models using Leapmotor's advanced EV technology.
The partnership aims to target a range of international markets including Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and the Middle East. Production of these new Hongqi models is slated to begin in the latter half of 2026 at Leapmotor's Hangzhou facility in eastern China. This geographic expansion is significant as it marks a concerted effort to broaden Hongqi's global footprint through a blend of technological innovation and distinctive design.
Leapmotor's CEO underscored the importance of this collaboration in enhancing the global competitiveness of Hongqi vehicles. Moreover, according to Reuters, Leapmotor is also in talks with Ferrari to explore the development of a new model on its EV architecture, showcasing the company's broadening influence and appeal in the automotive sector.
